Youth League Regulations:

Coaches are responsible for knowing all rules and regulations

  1. Making Teams: The San Francisco Soccer Youth League is a recreational league. Accordingly players may not be selected based on ability and teams may not try out players. We simply use the player’s self-rating, along with other information, to form teams and place them in appropriate divisions.

  2. Coach: All teams must have a coach or manager.

  3. Only Players on Roster May Play:  All players must have player passes.

  4. Equipment: Players must have shin guards. Cleats, sneakers and flats are ok. Players must have matching jerseys. Jerseys must have numbers on the back.

  5. Games start on time:  In the event of a delay for any reason, the referee will reduce game time by the amount of the delay proportionately from each half.

  6. Forfeit:  A team with half, or less, players needed for a full game will be considered a forfeit.

  7. Scheduling Requests: $100 Fine for Forfeit: We cannot accommodate scheduling requests.   You may try to swap time slots with other teams yourself and notify us if successful.  If you will not make a scheduled game you must complete the following by the Monday prior to the game: (1) Notify the San Francisco Soccer Youth League Office by emailing us at info@sanfranciscosoccer.org; (2) Notify opposing team; (3) Pay a $100 penalty (except in the case of exigent circumstances) prior to the team’s next scheduled game. If you do not pay the fine, we must expel your team from the League for the balance of the season. If you do not provide the notices described above, we must impose additional penalties on your team.

  8. Absence of Referee: If no referee is present at the start of the game, the teams’ coaches will either find a competent referee or the coaches will each referee one half of the game and the game will be official if played.

  9. Location of Spectators: For all youth games, spectators must observe match from outside fence boundaries. The coaches shall be responsible for ensuring that spectators follow this rule.

  10. Minimum Playing Time: The coach shall play each youth player present at the start of the game for at least one half of the total game time.

  11. Coaching: Only By Coaches.

  12. Disagreements: Disagreeing with or criticizing a referee will not be tolerated.

  13. Check the Web Site: Please check the web site by Wednesday of each week for any important updates. Make sure to hit refresh or reload on your browser.

We will not make a long list of prohibitions for rules of conduct. Everybody already knows what is appropriate. We expect all players and spectators to act with the highest degree of sportsmanship.
